AMERICAN SOCIETY OF APPRAISERS

Q: What is the American Society of Appraiser (ASA)?

A: The ASA is an international, independent, not for profit, teaching/testing/certifying appraisal society. The ASA represents the multi-disciplines of the valuation profession.

Q: Why is it important to use a certified numismatic appraiser from the ASA?

A: (1) The ASA consistently maintains very high standards. Each appraiser must take and pass tests in ethics, principles of valuation, Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and numismatics. Only upon completion of all rigorous exams can an individual be accredited by the ASA.

    (2) Only a professional numismatic appraiser can write a comprehensive report to the client. These reports can be sent to a third party, such as a lawyer, accountant or insurance company.

    (3) The course work, testing and verification by the ASA provides the appraiser with the proper background to perform a wide range of services.
